Mr. LaPrairie is a highly experienced attorney concentrating his practice in intellectual property law without losing sight of the ever-evolving business needs of the client. He focuses his practice on obtaining and enforcing patents and trademarks for clients, with particular emphasis on global patent representation for multinational corporations in a wide variety of mechanical, electromechanical, and chemically oriented technologies. Mr. LaPrairie counsels clients on different strategies for managing their global IP portfolio with the goal of optimizing allocation of their IP budget. He also works closely with clients to assess a wide variety of clearance/freedom-to-operate issues, regularly providing opinions for non-infringement and invalidity. Mr. LaPrairie has significant experience preparing and negotiating key agreements for clients, including joint development and license agreements. Additionally, he relies on his technical experience to counsel his clients on compliance with U.S. export regulations and the associated license requirements.

Representative Matters

  • Served as co-counsel representing the worldwide interests for a multibillion-dollar company as defendant in complex patent infringement case in Europe.  Responsibilities for this matter included developing and leading global litigation defense strategy, as well as supporting official nullity proceedings and licensing possibilities.

  • Represented multibillion-dollar global automotive supplier as defendant in complex patent infringement case in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware achieving settlement in favor of our client, after motion to dismiss for failure to state a claim and after our preparation and filing of two petitions for inter partes review before the United States Patent & Trademark Office. The plaintiff in this matter was represented by a top five AmLaw 100 firm.
