![]() Mr. Kershner focuses his practice in energy, corporate and real estate law, including, mergers and acquisitions and other corporate matters for national and international corporations. Serving 25 years as in-house counsel, he most recently was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of CMS Energy Corporation, a Fortune 500 energy holding company. Mr. Kershner is an expert in many aspects of the energy industry, including electric power production, oil and gas, and federal and state regulation.
Mr. Kershner has led acquisitions and divestitures of enterprises valued in excess of $1 billion, and has managed corporate and project finance transactions and formation and financing of new business enterprises. He was responsible for advising operations in 20 foreign countries and has expertise in the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. As a member of the executive management team of CMS, Mr. Kershner advised the company's executive officers and Board of Directors and sat on boards of directors of the company's largest subsidiaries. In this role, he also supervised a legal staff of approximately 60 lawyers located around the world. Mr. Kershner's present practice focuses on production of conventional and alternative energy, energy infrastructure investment and on formulation of energy policy.
Mr. Kershner is vice chair of the Electricity Committee of the American Bar Association's Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law Section and a member of the Section's Counsel Group. He is a member and former Chairman of the Board of Control of Michigan Technological University, where he chairs the finance and audit committee.
